USING CROSSPOINT
Share files
Files go straight from one of your computers to the other over your network, encrypted. No cloud, no size cap.
Four ways to send
- Copy and paste. Copy files in Finder or Explorer, cross to the other computer and paste. They are sent first, then the app tells you “Files from … are ready to paste”.
- Drag across the edge. Drag files and keep going past the screen edge, then drop them on the other computer.
- From Devices. Click Send files… on a connected computer, or the folder icon to send a whole folder.
- From Transfers. Pick the computer, then Choose files… or Folder…, or drop files and folders on the Crosspoint window.
Where received files go
Into a Crosspoint folder inside your Downloads: ~/Downloads/Crosspoint on a Mac and Downloads\Crosspoint on Windows. The Transfers page shows the path at the bottom, and Show in Finder or Show in folder on a finished transfer opens it.
- Nothing is ever overwritten. A second
report.pdfarrives asreport 2.pdfon a Mac andreport (2).pdfon Windows. - Every file is checked when it arrives and only kept if it matches what was sent.
- Files you drag across the edge and drop where nothing accepts them are kept in the same folder, with a notice.
Pause, resume and cancel
The Transfers page lists everything moving and recently finished, with progress and speed.
- Pause and Resume work on files you send.
- Cancel works on either side.
- If the connection drops, the transfer pauses and carries on when the computers reconnect.
- Clear finished tidies the list.
Limits
- There is no limit on file size.
- Up to 1000 files in one transfer. For more, zip them first.
- Folders up to 32 levels deep.
- Speed depends on your network. Wi‑Fi is often several times slower than a cable.
Browser tabs
Tab sharing lets you drag a browser tab past the edge so it opens on the other computer. It works with Chrome, Edge and Brave (version 116 or later) through a browser extension, and isn’t in the browser stores yet. Safari and Firefox aren’t supported. Links you drag across the edge open on the other computer too.
