GET STARTED
Connect two computers
Computers on the same network find each other. You confirm each pair once with a 6-digit code, and they stay paired.
Pair with a code
- Open Crosspoint on both computers, on the same network.
- On either computer, open Devices. The other one shows up under Other computers as Found nearby.
- Click Pair next to it.
- The other computer shows a 6-digit code and asks you to confirm. Only pair with computers you own.
- Type that code on the computer where you clicked Pair.
When the codes match, the row turns to Connected with the delay in milliseconds, and you can move on to arranging the screens.
- A code lasts 2 minutes and allows 3 tries.
- If it doesn’t match, you see “The code didn’t match”. Click Try again and a fresh code appears.
- The code proves both computers are yours. After that the connection is encrypted with keys only these two computers hold. See What is encrypted.
When the other computer doesn’t show up
Some networks, like guest Wi‑Fi and many office networks, block computers from finding each other. Add it by its address instead:
- On the other computer, open Devices. It shows “This computer is …” with its IP address.
- On this computer, type that address into Add by IP address at the bottom of Devices and click Add.
- Pair with the code as above.
You can type just the address, like 192.168.1.42, or add a port: 192.168.1.42:24900. Crosspoint uses UDP port 24900 by default. If you see “That device isn’t reachable”, check the address, that Crosspoint is running there, and that no firewall blocks the port.
More than two computers
Pair each new computer the same way. They all join one shared desk, and you can line all of them up in Layout. A newly paired computer starts to the right of the others.
Forget a computer
In Devices, click the bin icon on its row and confirm with Forget. This computer stops trusting it right away. The other computer keeps its own entry until you forget it there too, but it can’t reconnect.
